Impunity and journalism: the right to know

How  do authoritarian regimes and armed conflicts silence journalists and  undermine justice? How has the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated the  challenges facing independent journalism around the world?

To  mark the publication of the International Federation of Journalists’  (IFJ) “Killed list of journalists” and following the publication of  Fight Impunity’s (FI) report on "The State of Impunity in the World",  the two organisations invite you to a joint conference on the impact of  impunity on journalism and media freedom worldwide.

The  online event will bring together the Chair of the European Parliament’s  Subcommittee on Human Rights, the President of the IFJ, the President  of FI and frontline journalists. Based on their experiences and data  collected over the past 30 years, the speakers will take stock of the  state of impunity in the world and the consequences for freedom of  expression, while exploring how the mobilisation of international  organisations and institutions as well as political action can  contribute to strengthening the respect of fundamental rights.

Comment  opèrent les régimes autoritaires et les conflits armés pour réduire au  silence les journalistes et bafouer la justice ? Comment la pandémie de  COVID- 19 a-t-elle aggravé les entraves au journalisme indépendant à  travers le monde?

A  l'occasion de la publication par la Fédération internationale des  journalistes (FIJ) de sa “Liste des journalistes tués dans le monde” et  suite à la publication du rapport de Fight Impunity (FI) sur "L'Etat de  l'Impunité dans le Monde", les deux organisations vous invitent à  participer à une conférence conjointe sur les conséquences de l'impunité  sur le journalisme et la liberté de la presse au niveau mondial.

L’événement  en ligne réunira la Présidente de la sous-commission des droits de  l'Homme du Parlement européen, le Président de la FIJ, le Président de  FI et des journalistes. Sur base de leurs expériences et de données  collectées au cours des 30 dernières années, les intervenants dresseront  un bilan de l'état de l'impunité dans le monde et des conséquences pour  la liberté d'expression, tout en explorant comment la mobilisation des  organisations et des institutions internationales ainsi que l'action  politique peuvent contribuer à renforcer le respect des droits  fondamentaux.

In  che modo i regimi autoritari e i conflitti armati mettono a tacere i  giornalisti e minano la giustizia? In che modo la pandemia di COVID- 19  ha esacerbato le barriere al giornalismo indipendente nel mondo?

In  occasione della pubblicazione da parte della Federazione Internazionale  dei Giornalisti (FIG) della sua "Lista dei giornalisti uccisi nel  mondo" e in seguito alla pubblicazione del rapporto di Fight Impunity  (FI) su "Lo stato dell'impunità nel mondo", le due organizzazioni vi  invitano a partecipare a una conferenza congiunta sull'impatto  dell'impunità sul giornalismo e sulla libertà di stampa nel mondo.

L'evento  online riunirà il presidente della sottocommissione per i diritti umani  del Parlamento europeo, il presidente della FIG ed  il presidente di FI  e i giornalisti. Sulla base delle loro esperienze e dei dati raccolti  negli ultimi 30 anni, i relatori faranno il punto sullo stato  dell'impunità nel mondo e sulle conseguenze per la libertà di  espressione, esplorando come la mobilitazione delle organizzazioni e  delle istituzioni internazionali e l'azione politica possano contribuire  a rafforzare il rispetto dei diritti fondamentali.
