Depuis  l’indépendance acquise en 1960, la République Démocratique du Congo  (RDC) a connu le régime dictatorial de Mobutu Sese Seko, une série de  guerres civiles et de conflits armés ayant conduit des millions de  personnes à la mort, à des blessures irréversibles et aux déplacements  forcés. Le pays est depuis des générations le théâtre permanent de  violences et de violations massives de droits humains, faisant de la RDC  l’un des pays avec le plus haut nombre de victimes en attente de  justice.

Par  son action, Fight Impunity appelle l’Union Européenne (UE), l’un des  principaux partenaires internationaux de la RDC, à renforcer son  engagement dans la lutte contre l’impunité en RDC. En soutenant  davantage la réforme du secteur de la sécurité et de la justice, et en  poussant la RDC à  adopter une stratégie holistique qui combine des  mécanismes judiciaires et non judiciaires, développés dans notre  document d’analyse à paraître prochainement.

Since  its independence in 1960, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has  experienced the dictatorial regime of Mobutu Sese Seko, a series of  civil wars and armed conflicts that have led millions of people to  death, irreversible injury and forced displacement. For generations, the  country has been the scene of ongoing violence and massive human rights  violations, making the DRC one of the countries with the highest number  of victims awaiting justice.

Through  its action, Fight Impunity calls on the European Union (EU), one of the  DRC's main international partners, to strengthen its commitment to the  fight against impunity in the DRC. By providing more support for  security and justice sector reform and by pushing the DRC to adopt a  holistic strategy that combines judicial and non-judicial mechanisms, as  outlined in our forthcoming focus paper.
